Extended #teamcuthberts
Our school pets and visiting fluffy friends…
We are very lucky here at St. Cuthbert’s.
We have lots of pets and are always looking for ways to extend our family. We know that not all of our children have their own pets, so they have opportunity to love and care for our school and visiting pets.
We have two families of stick insects, one in each area in school. The children love looking after them & enjoy searching for them when they camouflage…
We have a lovely aquarium in school, which is bustling and full of lots of exciting and bright fishy friends. We also have a school pond. We are hoping the frogs we raised from frogspawn will return this year.
We have two school Guinea pigs.
The children have named them Badger and Toffee. The children are looking forward to helping us look after them.
Introducing Mabel…
Mabel belongs to our KS2 teacher, Miss Brownsord.
We are very lucky that she comes and visits school a few days a week.
We know that a dog can help with emotional well-being and we wanted all our children to experience first hand the fun and joy that can come from caring for a happy dog.
Having previously had Connie, our old school therapy dog, who greatly benefited the children in school, we found her to be a stress buster and helped by giving children the breathing space and distraction they needed on occasion. Our children loved to cuddle and stroke her and also loved giving her treats while playing. We are sure that the children will love Mabel just as much.
Sometimes, Mabel will really just be there to help children calm down when they’re upset.
Mabel has settled well into KS2 routines and enjoys hearing the children read; she is super impressed with how much reading they do at home and think they all deserve a Head teachers award…
We have a full risk assessment in place for Mabel, which has been approved by the Governors.
